Wow, didn't realize it had been this long since my last entry on the big road log.
Well just got back from Athens Greece and what a time it was. Some amazing things happened while I was there and I had a chance to meet some amazing people. I fell in love with the staff where I was staying at in Kifissia. The staff had a true servant heart. About 10 to 12 of them were volunteers and did not get paid but they worked about 15 to 19 hours a day waiting on all those who where staying at Scripture Union, which was about 250 people. It was a dorm style setting. Some rooms had 10 people per room, some less. But it made for an interesting time.
The area I was staying in had about 30 men and between us all we had two showers to share, four sinks, and two toilets, "what a blessing it was", but hey it worked out and I don't think anyone had to really wait very long, maybe 5 minutes. I wondered how the women worked out the small limited bathroom accommodations on their floor. It was great to meet all the people that were staying there from all around the world. We had people from England, Australia, Africa, USA, Russia, Latvia, Turkey. It was amazing to spend time chatting with those from other areas, not to mention to hear there testimonies of how Christ had impacted their lives. We were all there with the same mission, to share with others about the love of Christ.
I had the privilege to lead 46 people to Christ just walking around, at a game, on the train or in a store. God really opened up the door for ministry. I thought at first there would be a language barrier, but it was not as bad as I thought it would be. One night after the USA beat Greece in men's Basketball. I had the chance to share with about 30 plus people on the bus back to the train station. Our ride was about 25 minutes and I was sharing with two people, but many more joined in on our conversation. I was the only American on the bus among all the Greeks. One girl was from England and spoke very good English and Greek. She began to translate for me what I was saying and I started sharing why I was really in Greece. I went all the way up to accepting the Gospel and then it was time to get off the train and go our separate ways. I gave each one of them my card plus a Gospel tract and asked them to please read it and contact me if they had any questions or if any of them prayed the prayer on the back of the tract, (so please keep them in prayer).
The life of the Greeks is kind a interesting. They open their stores up around 9 or 10 in the morning, but at 2 pm until 5 pm they close the stores and shops and go take a nap. I thought about that for the U.S. but it would shut us down if we did something like that. Many of the good old Americans really enjoyed that siesta time and many adapted very quickly to the culture of Greece. I am not a nap taker, I had to keep at the grind only getting about 3 sometimes 4 hours sleep at night or should I say morning since I never got into bed before 2:00am, and I loved it. I don't require much sleep but I found it gives me time to study and share as much as I want to. I want to thank you all for you prayers while I was in Athens. I will be going back to Greece next year in October 2005 and I will take my bride with me. I want her to see the Biblical sites where Paul stood and preached on Mars Hill, the Parthenon, Corinth and the rest of the historical sites. It was a blessing to be apart of something so awesome and amazing. Please pray that God will continue to send laborers over there to plant the seed of life and to also harvest the growth. Many blessings to you and your families.
